Dig and sniff - the smell of history

The work revealing the footings of the railway foot-bridge continued today, overseen by Pixie who was unearthed early on this morning.

One member of NEWT, Phil, exclaimed today that as he dug he could smell the aroma of coal and steam trains. He was transported back in time to memories of trains and our industrial heritage, through the sense of smell.

The aim of today was to dig deeper so that the footings really stood out and the edges will be painted in due course. The iron-work edge is dotted with bolts, beautiful.

Again we we welcomed passers by who appreciate what we are trying to do and are always interested in the bridge's origins. And what gorgeous weather we had in which to work!
