"Mud, Mud, glorious mud.
There's nothing quite like it for cooling the blood
So follow me, follow, down to the hollow,
And there let us wallow, in glorious mud."
On Sunday Bolton Newt went to lend a hand to 'Men in Sheds' in Harwood. This is a community group where men can grow plants, vegetables and use the workshops for creative pursuits. They were interested in developing some ponds on the land they use, to attract wildlife and so Bolton NEWT agreed to dig them some ponds.
Elysia, who is a student at Bury college, joined us for the day. She wants to have a career in conservation and so she contacted us about getting some experience. She was a most welcome volunteer and a true hard worker.
In total there were three ponds at different levels and Chris made sure that the gradients into the ponds were suitable for the wildlife we had in mind. It was a truly muddy affair but there is nothing like the squelch of mud under your wellies, with that oozing slurp!
Simon even managed to sneak off for a little camera shoot:
And someone had to fall in! (Natalie) Luckily captured on camera:
