Fun in the sun - a fantabulous day!

Bolton NEWT were proud to support Councillor Adele Warren with her 'Fun in the Sun' event for Breightmet residents today. An what a super day it was, fun packed with activities for kids and a huge buffet. The preparations had taken months but it was all worth while and we arrived a couple of hours early to set up with the help of Dave, Jasmine Chris, Simon, Leanne, Alex and Sue. Adele was busy with the buffet preparation at this point.

The archery was a great success and so many children came to have a go and compete with each other. It was all safely supervised and the joy on the kids' faces when they managed to hit the target was a sight to behold.

There were cheers when the fire engine arrived and the firemen explained to the children how all their tools worked and let them have a look around inside. What a brilliant opportunity!

The pebble art went down a storm as always with paint absolutely everywhere! On the grass, in hair, smeared on hands and faces, in sandwiches and even sometimes on the pebbles :-)

Brian provided the tunes for the day, which saw people bopping along with their families and then the Bolton Thai boxing club arrived for their demonstation. This really inspired some of the onlookers to join in and the team really gave their best. Brilliant!

The buffet was absolutely yummy and it was fabulous to see so many residents attend and get together for a good nosh and a natter. With quiche, butties, cake, jelly, crisps, salads, buns and other snacks, no one went away hungry!

The outdoor board games were a big success after dinner and kids, parents and grand parents joined in to play, connect four, huge snakes and ladders and jenga. A parachute with balls provided a big source of amusement as well. Bolton Council recycling team also attended to chat with everyone and hand out information and give out caddies.

All topped off with an impromptu conga at the end. A huge thank you must go to everyone involved in the planning, funding preparation and running of the event:

Volunteers: Chris, Simon, Adele, Jasmine, Leanne, Susan, Dave, Alex, James, Noo, Donna, Sylvia and Jo.

Bolton at Home

Brian and Maureen for the music and hospitality,

Here are some of the comments from the residents. We estimate that that throughout the day between 280 and 300 people attended - what a huge SUCCESS!
